#10 Hunt for something related to Wonder Woman

The woman who co-taught with my daughter told me that Gretchen had a marvelous sense of humor. I rarely saw it. I was the one she called when she was hurt, or angry, or blue. When she was happy, she called someone else, but I was pleased to know that she had a silly streak.

The preschool where she taught had an annual superhero week. Teachers were encouraged to come in costume, and she dressed as Wonder Woman. She wore her costume even after she left school. She wore it to run errands and when she went out to lunch. She marveled that an elderly gentleman paid for her lunch -- wanting to honor her spunk and bravery, I suppose.

I wanted to remember her as a superhero so I added to my list "Hunt for something related to Wonder Woman" and took my hunt to the flea market. Comic books were in abundance so I rifled through the stacks, expecting to find the classic figure dressed in America's colors and in bold stance. What I found was Wonder Woman in pink, cradling Superman in her lap.

Her co-worker had allowed me to re-frame my image of Gretchen into someone who could laugh; the magazine cover allowed me to think of her as someone who could love.
